Just weeks into his tenure as the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral (Rtd) Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas has announced that preparations are in progress for the 2025 appropriation bill, with a strong focus on critical sectors that directly impact the lives of residents.

Speaking during a courtesy visit from the Rivers State caucus in the National Assembly, led by Senator Dr. Barinada Mpigi (Rivers South-East), Ibas disclosed that the upcoming budget will emphasize healthcare, education, agriculture, and infrastructure development.

The meeting, held at the Government House in Port Harcourt on Thursday, provided an opportunity for the administrator to outline his vision for the state’s development. He reassured the delegation of his commitment to transparent governance and efficient allocation of resources to areas with the most pressing needs.

In his remarks, Ibas emphasized that the upcoming budget would also concentrate on fostering job creation for Rivers State residents and promoting the integration of technology into key public services.

“Following the Supreme Court ruling on the state’s budget, we acted quickly to develop a comprehensive plan for infrastructural growth,” he stated.

“We have worked tirelessly to ensure that the process is transparent, inclusive, and, most importantly, expedited. Our objective is to prevent further delays in making essential investments that will improve the lives of our people.”

Ibas further explained that the finalized budget will prioritize job creation and investment in sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure, and technology, underscoring the urgency of the initiative. “We understand the importance of this effort and are committed to implementing it swiftly,” he added.

He also called on the visiting lawmakers to provide the necessary legislative support to secure the resources needed to implement his administration’s initiatives. “Your partnership is crucial to keeping Rivers State on the path to progress and ensuring lasting peace for future generations,” Ibas said.

Addressing the causes behind the state of emergency declared by President Bola Tinubu, Ibas highlighted ongoing efforts in dialogue, community engagement, and reconciliation to restore trust among the people.
