Kidnappers release lifeless body of ex-lawmaker Abba Anas Adamu after ransom payment

The lifeless body of former House of Representatives member and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Abba Anas Adamu, has reportedly been handed over to his family by kidnappers after the payment of ransom.
Adamu was abducted alongside fellow politician, Ali Tukur Gantsa, while travelling to Abuja to attend an ADC congress.
According to reports, the kidnappers initially demanded N200 million for the release of the victims but later agreed to accept N50 million to secure Gantsa’s freedom.
A family source said both men were intercepted last Wednesday on their way from Kano and taken to a forested area around Jere, where the ransom negotiation took place.

According to the source, the abductors released Gantsa after the ransom was delivered by Adamu’s driver and son, but informed them that Adamu had died while in captivity.
Reports indicate that Adamu, who suffered from asthma and hypertension, had been without his medication during the ordeal, a situation that reportedly worsened his condition under captivity.
The incident has thrown the ADC community in Jigawa State into mourning, with colleagues describing him as a grassroots politician known for integrity and public service.
There has been no official statement from the party at the state level, while arrangements for his burial are expected to be announced by the family.
