Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a suspected drug dealer who attempted a daring escape by jumping from a two-storey building at the Audu Bako Secretariat in Kano.

The suspect, reportedly trying to evade arrest, leapt from the building but was eventually apprehended by NDLEA officers during a statewide enforcement exercise tagged Operation Sharar Mafaka.

Sources said the operation is part of intensified efforts by the agency to clamp down on drug trafficking and abuse across the state.

Weekend Trust reports that Operation Sharar Mafaka is a coordinated campaign aimed at dismantling drug hubs and restoring order across Kano metropolis.

NDLEA officers stormed parts of the secretariat to flush out suspected illicit activities when the suspect, upon sighting the operatives, attempted to flee by leaping from the second floor.

According to a statement by the Command’s spokesman, Sadiq Maigatari, the suspect was swiftly overpowered, with a quantity of cannabis sativa recovered from him at the scene.

The suspect, identified as a car washer, reportedly confessed to having been involved in the illicit drug trade for about two years.
