NNPP Chieftain Aminu Ringim dumps party for ADC

A prominent figure in the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Jigawa State, Aminu Ibrahim Ringim, has officially defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), in a move aimed at strengthening opposition forces ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Ringim made the announcement on Saturday during his formal registration with the ADC in Ringim Local Government Area. The event drew a large crowd of supporters and party members who gathered to witness the political shift.

Explaining his decision, Ringim emphasized the need for a stronger and more united opposition capable of presenting a viable alternative in the next election cycle.

Addressing the crowd, he said his decision was driven by the need to align with like-minded politicians to tackle pressing national challenges, including insecurity, inflation, hunger, and unemployment.

He urged Nigerians, particularly his supporters, to join the ADC, stressing that a united opposition is crucial to dislodging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next election cycle.

Ringim dismissed speculations that the emerging ADC coalition would collapse after its primaries, pointing to ongoing political alignments across the country as evidence of growing unity.

“They said Obi, Kwankwaso and Atiku will not be together, and now they are together. Now they are saying after the party primaries, ADC will not survive,” he said.

He maintained that party leaders at both state and national levels had agreed to remain united and support whoever emerges as the ADC’s candidate.

The former NNPP gubernatorial candidate also claimed that millions of Nigerians had already registered with the ADC, adding that the party is targeting tens of millions more as it builds momentum ahead of 2027.

His defection underscores the shifting political landscape, as opposition figures continue to realign in what appears to be a broader effort to form a formidable front against the APC.
