INEC releases 2027 election timetable as electoral act amendment stalls

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has completed the timetable and schedule of activities for the 2027 general elections, even as the amended Electoral Act remains pending before the National Assembly.
INEC Chairman, Professor Joash Amupitan, disclosed this on Wednesday in Abuja during a meeting with representatives of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs).
While noting that INEC has submitted its proposals to the National Assembly, Amupitan acknowledged that some items in the election schedule could be affected depending on when the lawmakers pass the amended Act.

He, however, emphasised that for now, the commission has no choice but to rely on the existing Electoral Act for its activities.
