Suspected stowaway arrested at Ilorin airport after attempting to hide under aircraft

A man identified as Segun Martins has been arrested after reportedly attempting to stow away on an Overland Airways aircraft at the General Tunde Idiagbon International Airport in Ilorin.
The incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon at about 3:02 pm, sparking swift security action. According to a preliminary report, Martins gained unauthorized access to the airside and made his way to the undercarriage area of the aircraft, which was already preparing for taxi and takeoff.
Authorities say the suspect attempted to conceal himself between the tyres of the plane—a highly dangerous move that could have cost him his life. Airport security personnel quickly apprehended him before the aircraft proceeded with its departure.
The man who was promptly arrested by the ground security reportedly told investigators that he thought the aircraft was headed for the United State of America.
Spokesperson of the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Michael Achimugu, confirmed the incident in a post on his verified X handle.

He wrote: “At approximately 1502 hours, a male, identified as Segun Martins, gained unauthorized access to the foot of an Overland aircraft that was about taxi for takeoff and attempted to conceal himself between the aircraft tyres.
“Ground security apprehended the individual. He was immediately handed over to the Airport Police for further investigation.
“Mr. Segun Martins stated that he believed the aircraft was bound for the United States of America and intended to escape by hiding on the aircraft.”
He stated that investigations into the incident are ongoing.
